Wisdom in the Secret Place

I don’t know how God speaks to you. For me, it’s often in the form of repeated themes from a variety of sources. I hear something in a counseling session. I hear it again in a sermon. I read it in Scripture. I hear it on a podcast or in a book. I talk it over with a friend. Slowly, a truth begins to reshape me. A theme for me lately has been inner wisdom. I think of this...

Jesus Speaks to Women: The Greek Canaanite Mother

I am creating a series of art and poems based on the words Jesus spoke to women. This poem is based on the account of Jesus’ conversation with a Canaanite woman with a demon-possessed daughter found in Matthew 15:21-28 and Mark 7:24-30. my fragile daughtera frayed sail in endless squallsme, her anchor casting hopeon every idolcrushed by idle indifference a foreign woman in a border townis unmoored, useless as a stray dog I hear the healing Teacherhas come to townand I go...

“I am confident of this”: Psalm 27:13 Phone Screensaver

I don’t know what you’re going through. I don’t know what hopes have been dashed in your heart. I don’t know how desperate and confused you may feel. I don’t know how thin is the hope you’re clinging to or how obscured your view of God has become. Maybe you have forgotten what it feels like to experience peace. Maybe the tide always seems too high. And I’m so sorry. But I am confident of a few things for...

All Good Things: April and May

I was having trouble focusing. I was worn out, feeling desperate. So last weekend I booked a hotel room and took myself on a retreat to the town of Winchester, VA, about an hour from here. I explored local thrift stores, watched some movies, and tried some small local restaurants (this Peruvian chicken place was the absolute best). I needed quiet. I needed rest. I needed to hear from the Lord. Does anyone else have a hard time admitting,...

All Good Things: March

Hello and welcome to my “all good things” post for March where I share some of the good things I’ve come across this month. WORKING ON I’m working on a fruit of the Spirit printable Bible verse set! Several of you have asked for this set over the years and I’m finally doing it. I’ve been googling fruits of the Middle East and researching Scriptures to go with each fruit of the Spirit. I may even include a sketch...

I'm going to be introducing new prints from my new I'm going to be introducing new prints from my newest print collection over the next few weeks. The gorgeous "Be Thou My Vision" hymn has always been one of my bestselling hymns , so I decided to add an additional version to my shop. This hymn was translated into English in 1905 by Mary Elizabeth Byrne (July 2, 1880 – January 19, 1931) from the Old Irish Hymn, "Bí Thusa 'mo Shúile."

I'm going to be introducing new prints from my new I'm going to be introducing new prints from my newest print collection over the next few weeks. Today, meet my print of the 1907 hymn "Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee" by Henry Van Dyke. Does anyone else immediately have the amazing Sister Act 2 version of this in their head?

I've never done an abstract, layered watercolor design around a hymn, but I really love how this turned out. I wanted it to look like a stained glass window in a church, but with a not-so-literal take.

Mortals, join the mighty chorus,
Which the morning stars began;
God's own love is reigning o’er us,
Joining people hand in hand.
Ever singing, march we onward,
Victors in the midst of strife;
Joyful music leads us sunward
In the triumph song of life.

I'm going to be introducing new prints from my new I'm going to be introducing new prints from my newest print collection over the next few weeks. Today, meet my watercolor nature color wheel and color mixing chart!

Each little creature and plant in the color wheel was hand-painted and then scanned and edited to fit in its slice of color. This is inspired by my watercolor classes, where I love to give an introduction to color theory. The second print is a simple watercolor mixing chart and shows the beautiful colors you can create just by mixing a few basic colors together!

Lastly, there is also a sticker version of the nature color wheel!
