The Question I’m Asking These Days

“God, how are you going to do this?” I felt like I have faced the impossible this year and seen God move in miraculous ways. Yet even now, there are situations big and small that seem impossible. I can’t control them. I can’t fix them. A while ago, I was reading through Luke and noticed the two passages below right next to each other in the account of the events before Jesus’ birth (I am highlighting the parts that...

Prepare Him Room: Advent & Christmas Resources for your Family

Advent starts this coming Sunday, and friends, I’m not ready. My mind is in a million places. But you know what?  That is exactly why the church celebrates seasons–to prepare Him room. To orient our hearts back to eternal matters. I need the month to prepare my heart to celebrate the momentous coming of our Immanuel. I need the month to settle my mind on Him in all His worthiness, joy, and glory.  I won’t do it perfectly or...

Seeking Advent Joy + a few simple resources to help

I can feel it even now. The busyness creeping in as my day planner pages run out: Christmas plays, parties, the gift lists I need to make, the pretty new wreath I imagine for my front door to let everyone know there’s joy inside. My brain begins to spin and it’s so tempting to absorb and manage every bit of information at my fingertips. This, combined with a tendency towards gloom in the winter months, is my recipe for...

Simple and fun things I want to try with my kids this advent

Eek! It’s been another year of blogging and I’m excited to share this last post!  So I mentioned that I am taking December off. I did this last year on the advice of another business owner and it was such a blessing. We need the time to rest and fully celebrate this great thing that God has done for us (and all of humanity).  I am not a baker and I don’t go all-out with Christmas decorating. My son...

Welcome to the blog!

I’m Mary and I’m glad you’re here! Since 2014, I’ve been sharing encouraging words, fun Bible printables, and accessible art activities.

let’s talk about . . .

In today’s Friday Chat, I’m joined by my frien In today’s Friday Chat, I’m joined by my friend Katie to talk about my Bible study pet peeves and best practices for leading Bible studies. We have both led and been part of small group Bible studies for many years, and we talk about how our ideas about the purpose of Bible study have changed over the years.

We discuss the importance of letting the Bible be complex, keeping Jesus at the center, dealing with the fear of the discussions going off the rails, and Katie’s hot take on the importance of actually praying in our small groups. You’ll also get to hear Katie’s answer to the question, “Is Jesus a Republican or a Democrat?”

It’s a wide-ranging discussion that I found really helpful and challenging. You might agree or disagree with us, but that’s okay, because that’s the point we’re making. Hope you enjoy the discussion!
